5:30 pm - Roy G. Biv - Guilt-free Stock Photos from Around the World

Details and how to order: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/292324

More than anything else, "ROY G. BIV" is an edited collection of stock photography, composed of images culled from the Creative Commons and available for free (providing credit is given to the photographer). Over 200 frankly stunning photographs are included, all grouped by colour - "roygbiv" being, of course, the acronym for the colours of the spectrum. A couple of handy indexes at the end of the book make it easy to find out who took what; contact information is also provided for each photographer.
One third of all the profits from the sale of "ROY G. BIV" are donated to Amnesty International - and that's good!

10:04 am - Practical Fieldguide to Alien Abduction
|
Details and how to order: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/402653

Essential reading for anyone curious about extraterrestrial intelligence, the "Practical Fieldguide to Alien Abduction" tells you what you need to know to survive and thrive Out There in the Galactic community. Startling and amazing colour photographs of aliens, their ships, and their habitats take you on one man's journey through the stars. You'll learn how to prepare for an abduction, what to pack, how to make yourself intriguing to aliens, and how to get back home. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to boldly go where no one has gone before, this is the book for you!
+++++++
"Surreal imagery along with some very helpful advice makes this book a must-have for anyone who has considered what would happen if they were abducted by one of my brood nest whelp-mates, or any of the Galaxy's major Involved species. I loved it!!"

10:55 pm - This blog is officially on hold

Yeah, looks like my attentions have wandered for the moment over to Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/shoes_on_wires/ I really like some of their tools and features - the Map feature alone...
If you are looking for a shortcut to my entries covering my 2005 Europe trip, go here: http://justusontour.livejournal.com/2005/ Start down near the bottom at the beginning of June and work backwards. I took the time to copy and paste the whole thing into Word and discovered that it is over 500 pages long (with photos). Golly!

11:22 pm - What's in your kit?
|
I've been working on our earthquake kit lately. Current contents include:
- 2 fleece blankets - pair work gloves - 2 dustmasks - can opener - candles - small bottle bleach - water purification kit (purchased from MEC, iodine free, just kills organisms) - collapseable water jug (just a small 4 litre one, but I've been looking for larger ones - hard to find) - bundle of plastic bags (the toilet when there is no running water) - battery-less flashlight (the shaking kind with an LED light - $8, and I'm skeptical about reliability. I'd like to get a crank-style one) - assorted food stuffs, including UHT milk, tuna, canned fruit, canned soup, canned beans, evaporated milk, tea, devilled ham, granola bars - on the 'to-get' list are an almond milk that we recently tried but is only available at Thifty's, honey (the only food that doesn't spoil), freeze dried coffee, more 'just add hot water' stuff, vacuum-sealed dehydrated stuff, catfood, etc) - pack of cards, portable crib board, set of 6 dice - assorted batteries - first-aid kit --- alcohol wipes (thanks Sean and Aud) --- gauze pads --- gauze rolls (2) --- waterproof tape rolls (2) --- Polysporin --- small bottle of Aspirin --- bar of Ivory soap --- bag of q-tips --- non-stick dressing pads --- swiss-army type knife --- assorted band-aids (a little light, though - need to get more) --- butterfly closures (need to get more) --- 10 Benadryl --- "Instant Guide to First Aid," with large sewing needle included --- on the 'to-get' list: tensor bandage, sling-style bandage, more butterfly closures, more bandages generally, Tylenol, Gravol, antacid (Tums), baby Tylenol, small pair of scissors, tweezers, thread, mickey of vodka, earplugs

6:50 pm - Please bear with me - and a warning to all users of Windows2000 (and others, I suppose)
|
|
DO NOT use "automatic updates." I did, and it resulted in the stripping clean of a 250 gig hard-drive - the loss of over 100 gigs of data. Now, before you say "Oh no!!!!" - don't fret. My earlier computer grief caused me to back up everything during my most recent upgrade (the upgrade from hell). All that was lost was time and effort - no biggie, really. I would explain in more detail, but a fussy Alex was just handed to me, and I've also got to get dinner together. JUST SAY NO TO AUTOMATIC UPDATES.
